Based on
a black and white photograph of reggae
artist, Bim Sherman (1952-2000), as
used on the Miracle album cover,
suggesting a very different side of the
rebel Rastafarian spirit. The
painting is open to interpretation as the
solace found in sleep, death or
meditation. As my own small posthumous
tribute to the late Bim Sherman, it is
linked in my mind with the ancient
tradition of the gold death-mask (as worn
by the deceased Pharaohs of ancient Egypt),
suggesting the dignity of a graceful
death.
Rest in peace. |
This
painting is part of a series of portraits
inspired by my love of reggae and Rastafarian
culture. Please see also: The Wailers Trio, Peter Tosh, Burning Spear and Rita
Marley.
