Peter Tosh (1944-87) was a
close friend and colleague of Jamaican
reggae artist Bob Marley (1945-81).
Together with Bunny Wailer (born 1947),
they formed the pioneering group The
Wailers. Of this trio, Tosh was
perhaps the most sombre, reflective and
intense. He seems to capture the spirit
of the biblical Sampson, the dreadlocked
Nazirite whose mighty strength lay in his
long hair. Like Sampson, Tosh was a
formidable foe to his enemies, aptly
nicknamed the 'Stepping Razor'. Tosh was
brutally murdered during a burglary at
his home on September 11 1987.
Loosely based on a photograph.
Original pastel painting: £75. Prints
