The red
plant-based dye henna is widely used in
Asia and the Middle East to paint
elaborate designs onto the skin. The
custom is especially popular for
weddings. The name of the bride's
husband-to-be may be hidden somewhere in
the intricate patterns on her hands. In
this case, texts from the biblical Song
of Songs are written inside the heart
shapes:
"I am my Beloved's and He is Mine.
... Set Me as a Seal
upon Thine Heart, for Love is strong as
Death."
Original silhouette paper-cut £250.
